First Great War

Description

A lot of description has gone into the piece itself, which may or may not find itself fairly hard to read. This is a snapshot of the centre of the war. I will put a basic timeline of events below, and explain how these apply to the greater Look Away! timeline. As well, it should be noted, that this is not only one of my first worlda maps in the new style I have adopted, but the first which shows the entire planet. It has given me greater confidence for more worlda pieces in the future. A lot of the timeline and inspiration can be found from this musing I wrote earlier.

  • 1912, Germany's annexation of the Morocco as a response to French agitation not only directly broke spoken agreements by the two powers (and Spain) beforehand in 1910 and 1911, but also against direct French direction not to. Thus, France and Spain declared war. The rest of the world fell like dominoes through a series of convoluted treaties and agreements, until two large alliances were all that was left. The Grand Coalition immediately began offensive operations, believing itself to have the immediate advantage. The big powers of TGC, Britain, France, and Dixie, found that brute force would not win this war.
  • 1913 and everyone had to bunker down and dig trenches. This is when stalemates along the Rhine and Belgium, Appalachia and Delaware, and the Quebec-Toronto Corridor. Besides that, the war of movement became a more flexible war of attrition. The Ottomans had to fall back to Thrace, and Russia began hammering along with Persia against the Sick Man of Europe. Britain began extensive operations with the Ottomans to try and fight in the Black Sea. The Siege of Sebastopol was a TGC victory. The Allied Powers focused on figuring out how to communicate with one another, especially considering the distraction and potential a state like China and the US provided, despite being relatively isolated TAP members.
  • 1914 continued the inflexibility. However, new technology began to surface. Chemical warfare and armour began to evolve, and the Air Front became very real, very fast. In the American Front, Dixon troops managed to meet up with Canadian ones, securing the West, and cutting off Seattle (Western HQ for American forces) and Philadelphia (Eastern HQ). As Summer began to leave, the war also turned in Europe, with British troops landing across Netherlands and entering Germany. Naval supremacy was in hand for TGC and TAP began to fall back on all fronts.
  • 1915 saw the end of the war for the United States, Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands due to lost battles to TGC. The war ended for Austria-Hungary and China through a disintegration of the nation, and for Russia due to a series of coups, revolutions, and counterrevolutions, which ultimately left Russia on TGC's good side.
  • 1916 only saw fighting in the very early months by scattered and disconnected forces, while the Battle at Sea was entirely won by TGC. Every front was undeniably TGC held, and the Treaty of Frankfurt redrew the borders and set the stages for the next war, to appear 28 years after the first.
The huge wastage of the war led to many developments, especially the rise of Marxian-inspired revolutions across Europe. Former colonies found themselves in either British or French hands, while the developed nations balanced a war-weary population and an arrival of instability from The War to End All Wars.

I wonder how the 1940/1944 Second Great War looks like. Something with Germany/Austria and the USA wanting revenge on the Coalition nations? Great map, I love some alternate WW1 scenarios.
